Consumer Lending Underwriter

Role Summary:

Our Underwriter’s make high-level risk analysis decisions on consumer loan requests in accordance with HAPO’s underwriting standards and policies. The Underwriter position requires working closely and in a professional manner with HAPO staff and our network of dealers, to underwrite consumer loans and ensure soundness and conformity with regulations. Our underwriting team is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with our dealer partners as well as, building and maintaining relationships with our branch staff.

Responsibilities: include but are not limited to

• Make decisions to approve or deny the extension of credit.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with branch personnel and dealers by providing exceptional customer service.
• Maintain the highest level of confidentiality relative to information received directly or indirectly.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws/regulatory requirements.
• Identify and recommend additional lending opportunities to increase relationships with members.
• Ability to handle a high volume of tasks, including loans, phone calls and email
• Maintain consistent and thorough communication with all involved parties via professional, courteous, and friendly atmosphere for all internal and external customers and staff.

Requirements/Preferences:

• Preferred Bachelor’s degree in related field or related experience in lending/underwriting
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as credit bureaus, financial reports, policy and procedure manuals.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain lending decisions, loan policies and benefits to customers or dealers.
• Strong relationship building and teamwork skills.
• Good organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Demonstrate flexibility and openness to change priorities, accept and act on coaching input from a supervisor, and to meet changing demands.
• Maintain a positive and professional image through effective verbal and written communication.

Annual Salary Starting at: $45,000
