The Opportunity

The Director of Engineering is a strategic and operational leadership role responsible for overseeing the delivery, quality, and growth of engineering teams in a services and consulting environment. This role bridges client needs with technical execution, ensuring successful project outcomes, high-performing teams, and scalable engineering practices.

Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role requires a balance of engineering excellence, delivery leadership, people management, and client-facing experience. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of managing global engineering teams, delivering complex software solutions, and partnering closely with clients and cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate combines strong technical experience, people leadership, and strong, decisive decision-making.

The Director of Engineering will lead a geographically distributed team of around 50 engineers, QAs, DevOps, Project Managers, Designers, Business Analysts, and coordinate with other service lines of excellence. 


Responsibilities and Duties  


Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and drive the technical vision, engineering best practices, and architecture direction across full-stack development initiatives.
  • Direct and drive an AI-first approach to the delivery of services in engineering, QA, etc. 
  • Assist in defining and establishing engineering best practices, development standards, and technical excellence across teams.
  • Assist in defining operational metrics to improve the quality, productivity of engineering deliverables and solutions.
  • Partner with Client Partners, Solutions Architects, Product Managers, and Delivery Leads to develop solutions and ensure timely and high-quality deliverables


People Management

  • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent; coach and mentor Engineering Managers and senior technical staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and career development planning.


Client Engagement & Delivery

  • Help clients shape roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and make technology decisions.
  • Collaborate with sales and pre-sales teams on technical proposals, RFP responses, and client solutioning.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, helping to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction through proactive communication and consistent delivery quality.


Operational Excellence

  • Manage engineering budgets, resource allocation, and utilization across projects.
  • Improve delivery processes and metrics such as velocity, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Implement and track KPIs related to engineering performance, team health, and delivery success.


Innovation & Process Improvement

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Suggest and implement tooling, process improvements, and architectural modernization initiatives.


Requirements 

  • 10 years in software delivery, product engineering, or digital consulting.
  • Proven experience leading global software delivery teams of 50 across functions.
  • Strong technical background across multiple disciplines – software engineering, application architecture, infrastructure architecture, and modern service architectures
  • Strong enterprise architecture expertise in areas including data strategy, security frameworks, and integration methodologies.
  • Proven experience working across all engineering disciplines
  • Front-End (ReactJS, Angular, etc.)
  • Back-End (Java, Ruby, NodeJS)
  • Distributed systems and API-first, composable architectures.
  • Data Architectures (Relational DBs, DocumentDBs)
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure design and architecture (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP)
  • Strong understanding of event-driven systems and integration tools: Kafka, Mulesoft, API Gateway, Pub/Sub, Kinesis.
  • Deep experience in agile, DevOps, and distributed delivery models.

The compensation range for this role is $200,000 to $230,000 USD.
