With a portfolio that includes many of Hawaii’s most iconic buildings and infrastructure projects, HDCC performs across the spectrum of hospitality, retail/entertainment, commercial, residential, healthcare, educational, and infrastructure projects.JOB OVERVIEW:The Estimator plays a key role in the Pre-Construction/Estimating Department, supporting Senior and Lead Estimators in developing accurate, competitive cost estimates for small- to medium-scale projects and contributing to larger, more complex bids.This role involves reviewing bid documents, performing quantity take-offs, coordinating with trade partners, and analyzing plans and specifications to validate project scope. The Estimator helps translate design intent into a clear, buildable plan that serves as the foundation for construction pricing and execution.The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position offers hands-on training and growth opportunities within pre-construction and estimating.PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform detailed quantity take-offs for labor, materials, and equipment using project drawings and specifications.Support cost engineering efforts, including quantity tracking, cost reporting, forecasting, and production rate analysis for self-performed work.Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications to identify scope requirements, risks, and opportunities.Assist with bid-day activities, including last-minute pricing updates and coordination with the estimating team.Solicit, analyze, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive and complete pricing.Develop and manage trade partner scopes of work to ensure alignment with project requirements.Collaborate with estimators, project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to support successful bid submissions.Assist with preliminary project scheduling and monitor progress as needed.Participate in site visits and walkdowns to support accurate estimating.Adhere to company estimating standards, policies, and procedures.SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field; equivalent trade experience will be considered. 0–3 years of experience in construction estimating, pre-construction, or a related field (level dependent). Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, means, and methods. Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Bluebeam and Primavera P6 is a plus. Excellent organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment. Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
