Description
Reporting to the Director of Student Access Services (SAS), the Learning Specialist will provide support to the Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement and Success.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Provides individualized weekly one-on-one skill development sessions for a cohort of students in the Program for Academic Learning Skills (PALS) and Academic Coaching programs.
- Works as a liaison between PALS students, professors, administrators, and parents.
- Develops and implements individual action plans in collaboration with students in the Academic Coaching program.
- Conducts individual needs assessments or consultations for other students registered with SAS and makes referrals as needed.
- Interviews prospective candidates for the PALS program.
- Maintains accurate records of student interactions, including meeting notes in Navigate.
- Collaborates with other offices in the Division of Student Affairs to develop programming to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in special education, disability services, or a related field required.
- Three to five years of experience working with high school or college-age students, preferably in a teaching capacity.
- Demonstrated ability to teach reading and writing skills, as well as alternative learning strategies.
- Ability to work with students from diverse populations and demonstrate cultural competence.
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with students on the autism spectrum, preferred.
- Experience in interpreting disability related diagnostic testing.
- Collaborative, organized, and detail oriented.
- Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology and its application in the classroom.

Salary/Salary Range
$58,500

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
