Description:
The Procurement Manager is responsible for developing and executing effective purchasing strategies to ensure the timely and cost-efficient acquisition of goods, materials, and services essential to the company’s operations. This role involves managing vendor relationships, negotiating pricing and contracts, analyzing market trends, and identifying reliable suppliers. The Procurement Manager collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to align purchasing decisions with operational needs and budgetary goals. Success in this position requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and a high level of analytical and organizational ability.
Essential Functions of the Position:
• Ensure timely availability of replacement and repair parts for all vehicles, heavy equipment, and plant facilities.
• Develop and implement purchasing strategies that align with operational goals and cost objectives.
• Lead, hire, train, and supervise buyers and administrative staff in the Purchasing Department.
• Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships; communicate regularly with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Oversee inventory control and maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing excess or obsolete inventory.
• Monitor and control departmental labor costs and ensure accurate payroll records.
• Ensure a safe, clean, and compliant workplace environment.
• Support employee development, retention, and performance improvement across the department.
• Serve as a strategic partner to operations and maintenance teams by anticipating material needs and mitigating supply chain risks.
Skills and Knowledge:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and general office applications.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with frequent interruptions.
• Effective at diffusing and resolving stressful or time-sensitive procurement challenges.
• Working knowledge of the construction or heavy equipment industry is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with procurement management systems.
• Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
Requirements:
• Minimum of 5 years of procurement or supply chain experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Experience in the construction and heavy equipment industries preferred.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Familiar with CMMS system preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, provide feedback, and implement coaching or corrective actions as needed.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts as business needs dictate.
• Sedentary Work: Most duties are performed while seated, with occasional movement required.
• Standing: Occasionally up to 10 minutes at a time on a variety of surfaces.
• Walking: Occasionally up to 500 feet at a time, for up to 2 hours during a shift.
• Sitting: Frequently for extended periods while working at a desk or in meetings.
• Lifting: Occasionally lifting office materials or small packages up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed in an indoor office setting, typically located on company property.
• The noise level can vary from quiet office settings to louder environments with nearby equipment or alarms (30–90 decibels).
• Minimal exposure to outdoor elements unless required to visit job or plant sites.
