A rapidly scaling food and beverage company in Monterey County, CA is entering a transformational phase of growth and is confidentially building its in-house finance and accounting leadership team. After years of operating in maintenance mode, the business is now in hyper-growth, supported by significant commercial expansion, new executive leadership, and an ambitious global scale strategy.

The CEO has a clear mandate to dramatically expand distribution, retail footprint, and operational complexity, and is seeking an experienced Controller to serve as a foundational hire and financial leader on the ground.

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact, hands-on Controller role with direct visibility to the CEO and executive leadership. You will play a critical role in transitioning accounting operations in-house, strengthening financial controls, and partnering closely with operations, product, and strategy as the company scales across multiple channels and geographies.

The business operates across retail, e-commerce, and industrial channels, utilizes a broad co-packer network, and sells both domestically and internationally—making this an ideal role for a commercially minded finance leader who thrives in complex, fast-growing environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and oversee all core accounting functions, including month-end close, AP, AR, and financial reporting
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and support reporting considerations under IFRS
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities in partnership with FP&A and the executive team
• Act as a strategic business partner to operations, product, strategy, and the C-suite
• Provide financial insight to support pricing, cost optimization, and contract negotiations
• Strengthen cost accounting processes within a manufacturing and wholesale environment
• Support system usage and reporting within SAP BI

What We’re Looking For

• 10–20 years of combined accounting and FP&A experience
• At least 5 years of people leadership experience
• Background in food & beverage manufacturing, CPG, or wholesale products sold through big-box retailers
• Strong cost accounting expertise and deep knowledge of GAAP; IFRS experience required
• Commercially oriented mindset with experience partnering cross-functionally
• SAP BI experience is a plus
