CPS is responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive environment for consumers served. The primary role of a Direct Service Professional is to provide support tailored to the needs and wants of individuals served that will promote independence, community participation, and quality of life. Travel and/or transportation are required for this position.

Position Requirements:
High School diploma/ G.E.D. and 1 to 2 years’ experience preferred but not required.
Valid PA Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record as determined by an MVR.
Recommended 21 years of age or older.
PA Criminal Record Check/Child Abuse Clearance/Federal Background Check: acceptable results.
Physical examination by an agency approved physician; Initial and every 2 years following throughout tenure.
Annual training requirements as required by service licensing regulations and agency policy.
Successful completion of Medication Administration, First Aid, CPR, CPI and CPS courses within an acceptable period.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following: other duties may be assigned
should the needs of the individual to whom they are assigned to assist change.
Ø Possesses a working knowledge and ensures Implementation of regulations relating to Adult Training Facilities and Vocational Training Centers as noted in Pa.55 Code Chapters 2380 and 2390.
Ø Responsibility in both the facility and community is dependent upon “staff to individual” level of care noted in the ISP.
Ø Daily care, training, and supervision of assigned individuals attending the Day Program; attending to needs specific to consumer or consumers supported which can include (but not limited to) assisting with personal hygiene in restrooms, meal prep and assisting with eating, physical support for ambulation and medication administration. As a part of the Community Activities staff will assist consumers in developing job skills through volunteer experiences. In addition, while in the Community staff will assist with increasing independence with recreational, social, and decision-making skills.
Ø Is mindful of inclusion and integration; will engage individuals served in areas of interests and choices; Supports Consumers into the Community for recreational, volunteer activities, and entertainment at ratios dictated by the Consumer’s ISP. Travel into the surrounding communities and counties may be required.
Ø Medication administration. As assigned by supervisor, will administer medications to individuals as prescribed.
Ø Providing meaningful daily activities which include set up, clean up, and maintaining a safe program area and safe supportive community inclusion. Using judgement, discretion, and sensitivity to each consumer’s interest and abilities while maintaining close contact, encouraging, and monitoring participation.
Ø Implementation of ISP outcomes with individuals as documented in their service plan. Completing required documentation daily or as required. This includes computer entries while in the Community using a tablet or while in a facility.
Ø Attending team meetings (if requested) for individuals they monitor/ support.
Ø Monitoring individuals during lunch and breaks to assure safety from choking, etc.
Ø To maintain a safe and secure learning environment whether in the facility or community. Assuring rapid and safe evacuation during fire drills and other emergencies.
Ø To assist loading and unloading consumers from Vans or Buses upon arrival and departure, as directed by supervisor. Provide computer documentation as directed.
Ø Transportation and/or Transport of consumers is a requirement of the position. Use of an agency vehicle may be required. Functioning as a Driver or an Aide on an agency vehicle may be required on occasion. Drivers and aides on vehicles will complete computer entries on arrival and departure, unless directed otherwise by their supervisor.
Ø Perform other related work as assigned by Supervisor or as the situation dictates.
Physical Demands
The employee must be able to lift and/or transfer up to 50 lbs. using proper body mechanics. The employee is responsible for following the lift and transfer protocols as specified in the Individual Support Plans or medical evaluations and to request assistance when needed in the activity of lifting, transferring, or repositioning of the individual as needed. Travel / driving is required with this position.
Frequent physical activity throughout the day is required; strength and agility to participate in conducting all physical activities including exercise is an essential requirement of this position. The employee must be able to reach, stand, and walk for varying periods of time, as required. All physical senses i.e., smell, sight, etc. must be adequate to perform the supports required.
Work Environment
The work setting for this position varies; including but not limited to a classroom/ activity room/restroom/first aid room/to an outdoor environment as well as into the surrounding communities or counties for the purpose of Community Participation Supports.
