Job Title: Camp Counselor, Camp Paw Paw

Status: Part-Time, Seasonal

Reports To: Head Counselor (or Humane Education Coordinator)


Position Summary:

The Humane Society of Chittenden County is looking for Camp Counselors for our humane education summer camp, Camp Paw Paw! The Camp Counselor is a part-time temporary (seasonal) position serving as support and activity coordinator for Camp Paw Paw, HSCC’s humane education camp for children ages 5-12. The Camp Counselor must attend a pre-camp training and be available for all of the camp sessions.


In addition to supporting Camp Paw Paw, Camp Counselors will also have the opportunity to assist with HSCC's other humane education programs: Humane Heroes Workshop (ages 7-8; dates in late February and April) as well as Animal Welfare Warriors (ages 13-15; dates in late June). Availability to assist with these programs is a plus, but not required. 


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for a group of 20 campers each session
  • Ensuring the functional operation of each one-week camp session
  • Assisting with the checking in and signing out of campers each day
  • Facilitating camp activities under the direction of the Head Counselor
  • Ensuring a positive, fun, and safe camp experience for all campers
  • Reporting conflicts and problems to the Head Counselor and assisting with productive and positive resolution of challenges as they arise
  • Responsible for becoming familiar with and assisting in the implementation of Camp Paw Paw’s humane education based curriculum
  • Other duties as assigned and needed

  • Flexibility to deal with changes and problems
  • Interest and skills in working with children
  • Interest in animals and commitment to animal welfare
  • Upbeat, friendly, and outgoing personality
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to deal with challenges quickly, decisively, and appropriately
  • Willingness to: work as a team member, pitch in as needed, and have fun
  • Experience and/or training in education a significant plus!

 

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
