POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and direction for the Maintenance department to ensure consistency between shifts. He or she acts as a coach, mentor, and facilitator while developing and training the maintenance staff. The Maintenance Supervisor has a great understanding of the entire production process and a sound grasp of the complex relationships that exist throughout the process flow. This position requires the ability to train maintenance staff to manage these processes consistently as a team. They must possess the ability to troubleshoot and unite their team to resolve issues with the least amount of disruption to the production process as possible. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for system efficiencies, direction of employee activities, overall maintenance department daily workflow and coordination, compliance to established maintenance specifications, SOP’s, and plant policies. This role will also need to perform highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment. Safety practices must be held in the highest regard for all employees.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Maintenance Manager in the execution of the preventative maintenance program to ensure effective and efficient service.
- Performs highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility.
- Performs mechanical tasks and projects including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, and repair of production machines.
- Collaborates cross-functionally to diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test, and make necessary adjustments.
- Develops and coordinates daily work orders for maintenance staff, including but not limited to preventative maintenance schedules, installation of new equipment, and repairs.
- Assists the Maintenance Group Manager in working with the production team to maintain all plant and production efficiencies while continuously striving to reduce plant downtime and improve the preventive maintenance program.
- Performs minor and major repairs on plant equipment in the production facility.
- Assists in the completion of PM’s within the production facility on various equipment, i.e., including but not limited to Steam Supply, Air Supply, Refrigeration, Wastewater, Water Supply, Air Handling Systems, and production equipment.
- Troubleshoots electronic/electrical components, including 480v equipment.
- Assists and performs skilled maintenance activities to include but not limited to, construction, welding, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing as needed.
- Provides leadership and direction to the maintenance team.
- Leads and supervisors a crew of 8-12.
- Communicates safety issues/concerns to Safety Coordinator and direct manager.
- Complies with OSHA Safety and Health rules and all company policies and procedures.
- Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a maintenance or other related type role in an industrial milk processing plant.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in managing personnel in a highly diverse and challenging work environment.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- AA degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial maintenance, or another related field.
- Capable of sanitary tig welding.
- Industrial electrical experience.
- Experience with prior preventative maintenance systems.
- Food industry experience, preferably dairy.
Skills:
- Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications, especially Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint software.

Physical Requirements:
- Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to regularly perform heavy physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions.
- Excessive ascending and descending of ladders and stairs using feet and legs and hands and arms regularly. Body agility is emphasized.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances continuously.
- Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and fingers continuously.
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist regularly.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to rest on the knee or knees.
- Crouching: Regularly bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine continuously.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word. Includes activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Lifting: Able to lift, up to 100lbs occasionally, up to 50lbs regularly.
Working Conditions:
- The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
- Subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than two hours occasionally.
- There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level.
- Subject up to at least 92db’s.
Machinery Used:
- Various hand and power tools including mechanical hand tools, multi-meter, ammeter and megohmmeter, drill press, grinders, saws, cutting, torches, and pipe threaders.
- Drive a motor vehicle and/or heavy construction equipment.
