What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Engineer position at Idaho National Laboratory?

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Quality Engineer to work in our Environment, Health, Safety and Quality department. Our team works onsite with a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex, Idaho Falls, Idaho with every Friday off.

You will report to the MFC Quality Manager and you will function as an INL Quality Program ambassador and provide expertise of INL’s quality program implementation for assigned work areas. You will provide Quality Engineering support for INL to ensure compliance with the Department of Energy, Laboratory, and customer specific requirements applicable to Quality Assurance Program.

Responsibilities Include

  • Develop quality inspection planning using quality engineering principles. Perform reviews of several facility or program documents to provide inputs for quality items and processes and to ensure documents meet company quality requirements. Be aware of and work within associated budgets. Document and process changes to facility or project documents and conduct related training. Perform direct observations of quality work performance to support projects and work. Provide oversight to Quality personnel in directing quality control tasks, inspections activities, ensure Quality activities assigned are accomplished and reported.
  • Conduct assessments/surveillances/audits. Act with peers and management to ensure that facility and program activities and related documentation maintain consistency.
  • Maintain required training and proficiency per training plan.
  • Help develop the quality program and implementing systems for programs/projects. Provide technical expertise, assistance, and advice to program, project, facility management and personnel relative to quality compliance and implementation issues. Help provide solutions to resolve facility, program, or project compliance issues.
  • Provide mentorship to peers and program, project, facility management in providing, functioning methods for meeting quality requirements. Provide training to peers and work organizations in quality technical aspects of the INL Quality program.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree, in a technical field, plus 5 - 8 years of applicable Quality experience, or Master of Science degree, in a quality related technical field, plus 3 - 6 years applicable Quality experience, or PhD and 2 - 4 years applicable Quality experience.
  • Maintain familiarity with common INL NDE area (e.g.., RT, MT, PT, UT, and VT, LT) implementing processes.
  • Maintain proficiency with implementing INL Quality Assurance Program processes. (e.g., PDD-13000, LST-1118, NQA-1, Software Quality Requirements, ASME B31.1 and B31.3, ASME Section III, V, VIII & XI, AWS D 1.1, and AWS D 1.6., and other national quality standards). Must be able to demonstrate QA software experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% to perform vendor audits/ surveillance when mandated by project requirements.
  • INL Quality Engineer qualification, Radiation Worker I qualification (must be able to obtain and maintain within first 3 months of assignment), INL Lead Assessor qualification (must be able to obtain and maintain within first 6 months of assignment) and INL Quality Assurance Auditor (must be able to achieve qualification within first 12 months of assignment).
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • Salary Grade: PR0300 - 210($95,928 - $158,232) / PR0400 - 220($110,316 - $181,956)

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
