Assistant Preschool Teacher

Position Overview:
Immanuel Preschool is seeking an Assistant Teacher for our A.M. 5-Day PreK class. This position is part-time, regularly scheduled, with hours being Monday through Friday mornings as well as some out-of- classroom paid time outlined below. The Assistant Teacher is also eligible to serve as a substitute assistant for our afternoon classes where availability and interest align, or transition to different roles in future years, depending on enrollment, offerings, and overall need.

The Assistant Teacher is an individual excited about working with young children and interested in supporting a creative, play-based environment. The position includes supporting the Lead Teacher in implementing curriculum while creating a positive, safe, and meaningful preschool experience.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Work collaboratively with preschool staff to deliver a play-based, developmentally appropriate experience in alignment with preschool goals and standards
• Support and take directions from the Lead Teacher for overall classroom functioning including helping to implement daily lesson plans and activities
• Actively engage with children in activities, play, and daily routines
• Supervise children to ensure safety at all times including during indoor and outdoor play
• Assist students with self-help skills (e.g. handwashing, toileting, accidents/changing, jackets, snacks routines, clean up, etc.)
• Take ownership of maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment with a strong emphasis on overall child safety as well as best hygiene practices (i.e. sanitizing surfaces, sweeping, wiping tables)
• Support classroom behavior management practices and techniques, including working with students who exhibit challenging behaviors
• Assist with preparation, setup, and cleanup of classroom as well as materials and activities
• Help maintain preschool equipment, supplies, and overall cleanliness and organization
• Support children in their learning and development with attention to various domains (i.e. social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development)
• Foster positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers
• Follow all preschool policies, procedures, and safety protocols
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
• Contribute to preschool-wide initiatives beyond the classroom
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in our preschool as well as promote a culture that emphasizes inclusion and welcomeness for all

Position Qualifications:

• At least 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience working with young children is highly preferred
• Ability to pass necessary background checks including PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal History, and FBI Criminal History Clearances as well as completion of Mandated Reporter training and CPR Certification on regular basis.
• Ability to interact physically with children (stooping, kneeling, crouching, etc.)
• Ability to move items up to 40 pounds
• Comfortable working in noisy environments and outdoors in various weather conditions
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities

Compensation and Position Details:

• Part time, morning position with potential for adjustments in future years
• 9-month position with hourly pay corresponding to the months worked
• Set schedule with paid classroom cleanup/set up days, personal days, and snow days
• Some evenings and weekends required; based on staff training, special events and supporting overall preschool initiatives
• Optional summer hours available during summer camp weeks
• Compensation starting at $13/hour, with consideration for experience and qualifications
