Construction Dispatcher

The Requirements
- At least one year of service related dispatch / scheduling experience.
- Strong organizational / leadership skills.
- The ability to multitask while remaining detail oriented.
- Excellent communication and human relations skills (verbal, written and via phone).
- The ability to thrive under pressure or unusual assignments while utilizing your authority to make quick decisions that create good working conditions for our field team.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people and equipment over the road, including the relative costs and benefits.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- The ability to build relationships and work with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- General knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics and their construction applications.
- The ability to connect with and gain respect of field personnel to obtain direct answers in difficult situations.
- Working knowledge of most Microsoft Products and general understanding of computers.
- A high energy personality and excellent phone etiquette.
- Patience, professionalism and the ability to think on your feet.
Preferred but not required: Associates or Bachelor degree.
- Knowledge of federal/state DOT rules and regulations.
- OSHA Certification.
- Good technical understanding of construction and the concrete cutting / demolition industry.
The RoleAs the Dispatcher, you will be responsible for scheduling and dispatching operators/technicians, work crews, equipment, or service vehicles to appropriate locations, according to customer requests, specifications, and needs. You will start your day by ensuring all jobs starting smoothly for all technicians, and throughout the day you will be in constant communication with the outside sales force to schedule future jobs and answer questions. You'll input data and information into the computer system so that all pertinent job details and scheduling information are documented. You will end your day by confirming the following day's schedule is solid, while anticipating what could affect the days to follow.
There is also a significant customer-facing aspect to this role as you spend time fielding customer calls, inquires and scheduling requests. You will update them on status and troubleshoot any scheduling issues.
More specifically, you will:
- Confer with customers or supervising personnel to address questions, problems, or requests for service or equipment.
- Monitor personnel or equipment locations and utilization to coordinate service and schedules.
- Receive and prepare work orders.
- Relay work orders, messages, or information to or from work crews, supervisors, and sub-contractors, using telephones, email and other systems.
- Record and maintain files or records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, inventory, or other dispatch information.
- Prepare daily work and run schedules.
- Determine types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required, according to work orders or specifications.
- Advise personnel about traffic problems, such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, or other hazards.
- Arrange for necessary repairs to restore service and schedules.
- Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
- Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
- Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
- Schedule the work of others.
- Communicate with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, and other external sources.
- Get members of the team to work together to accomplish tasks.
- Resolve customer complaints and answer customers' questions.
You'll work a 6:30 am-3:30 pm or 8:00am-5:00pm schedule, Monday through Friday. *As a service company, response to night and weekend demands will be required as needed. However, this task is shared by all management.*
