As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly motivated Financial Controller to join our team. This role is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in an autonomous environment and is ready to take ownership of both accounting and HR functions, including full oversight of retail store financial operations.
Position Summary:
The Financial Controller will serve as the sole member of the accounting department and will be responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of accounting operations and human resources functions across the organization, including the construction division and the retail store. This individual must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing a diverse workload in a fast-paced construction and retail environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting
- Full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare weekly check runs for approval.
- Manage project/job costing in collaboration with project managers to ensure accurate margin reporting.
- Maintain and update KPI data for leadership reporting.
- Oversee and process payroll.
- Work with external auditors and tax preparers for audits and tax filings.
- Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
Human Resources
- Manage onboarding, benefits enrollment, and employee documentation.
- Maintain employee files and ensure compliance with labor laws.
- Coordinate employee time tracking, paid time off, and performance records.
- Support leadership with HR compliance, policy enforcement, and basic employee relations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including 2 years in a senior role; construction industry experience strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to independently manage full accounting cycles.
- Familiarity with HR procedures and labor law compliance.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software, Excel, and other business platforms.
Preferred Skills:
- Cash flow forecasting and financial analysis.
- Job costing and WIP (Work in Progress) reporting.
- Audit preparation and insurance reporting (WC/GL).
- Budget development and variance analysis.
