Title: Research Assistant
Location: Redmond, WA
Duration: 12 months
Compensation: $29.00/hr -$39.00/hr
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders, or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
Skillset / Experience:
As a Research Assistant, you will support human subject research studies within a highly interdisciplinary team focused on virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. Responsibilities include setting up experiments, conducting literature reviews, recruiting participants, and assisting with experimental design. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research.
Required Skills and Responsibilities:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology (e.g., neuroscience), cognitive science (e.g., artificial intelligence), computer science (e.g., human-computer interaction), engineering (e.g., human-factors), speech and hearing sciences, linguistics, or a closely related field.
- Experience running data collection using in-person qualitative research methods (e.g., user interviews, observational methods).
- Experience with qualitative data cleaning and coding.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and personal management skills.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a research environment involving human subjects.
- Solid understanding of information technology, including filesystems, secure shell (ssh), and spreadsheet applications.
- Proficiency in Windows, Linux, or MacOS, including command line and GUI usage.
Desired Characteristics:
- Advanced degree (MA, doctoral student).
- Coursework or lab experience in subfields such as speech perception/production, psycholinguistics, hearing science, language-focused cognitive psychology, auditory neuroscience, etc.
- Experience analyzing data or designing research protocols, particularly studies using in-person qualitative methods and surveys.
- Familiarity with setting up audio-related equipment (e.g., microphones, speakers, audio interfaces) and working with technical equipment (e.g., inertial sensing with IMUs, optical sensing, EMG).
- Knowledge of quantitative methods and analysis, including survey creation and descriptive statistics.
- Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Matlab, Python, JavaScript, R, or others.
