Description Summary
The Financial Aid Coordinator will evaluate and verify financial aid applications in accordance with Federal regulations, conduct student needs analysis to determine financial aid eligibility, certify federal loan eligibility, provide financial aid counseling, make professional assessments regarding student aid eligibility and facilitate problem solving with students and parents.
Examples of Duties
Constant (67-100%)
- Performs needs analysis in compliance with federal criteria to determine the relative eligibility of each financial aid applicant.
- Conducts the verification process of student aid application data in accordance with federal regulations and uses professional decision-making to resolve conflicting information.
- Determines the types and amounts of financial aid to be awarded through the packaging process according to federal, state, and institutional requirements. Monitors individual student awards and resolves data conflicts and over awards.
- Works with Financial Aid Assistant Director on individual student appeals concerning eligibility. Initiates the professional judgement process based on documented mitigating circumstances in accordance with federal statutes. May refer complex eligibility situations to the Financial Aid Director.
- Provides financial aid counseling to students and parents regarding all aspects of the financial aid process.
- Provides support to students experiencing family, personal, or economic crises which may impact school performance. Makes necessary referrals to other student services offices.
Frequent (34-66%)
- Monitors and evaluates satisfactory academic progress of students and advises students on re-gaining eligibility.
- Interacts with appropriate outside entities in order to facilitate the student eligibility process.
- Participates in the development of institutional financial aid policies and procedures that will positively impact efficiency and quality of services provided.
- Maintains appropriate documentation via data entry system.
- Participates in annual training and professional organizations to keep abreast of new information and program changes to be implemented.
Occasional (10-33%)

Qualifications
Associate’s Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Must possess excellent human relations skills, written and verbal communication and be extremely well-organized. Computer skills are essential. Preference will be given to those who have had prior experience in financial aid, especially with regard to the college or university setting.

Position involves constant (67-100%) talking or listening to persons over the telephone and in person, sitting, visual activity, repetitive motion while utilizing computer equipment; frequent (34-66%) getting up and down, reaching, standing, and walking; and occasional (10-33%) filing, lifting up to 25 pounds.
