Job Overview:
The Transport Planner will be responsible for coordinating and planning the efficient transportation of goods from the UK to other UK and international destinations. This role requires a proactive individual with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of export procedures, regulations, and documentation. The successful candidate will ensure that all shipments are managed effectively, on time, and in compliance with legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate UK and export shipments, ensuring optimal routing, cost efficiency, and timely delivery.
- Liaise with 3PLs, suppliers, carriers, and freight forwarders to arrange transport and handle shipping documentation.
- Prepare and verify export documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Monitor and track shipments, providing regular updates to customers and resolving any issues that arise during transit.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant export regulations, customs requirements, and trade agreements.
- Collaborate with internal departments, such as sales, customer care, and warehousing, to ensure seamless operations.
- Negotiate rates and contracts with transport providers and ensure cost-effective solutions.
- Maintainaccurate records of shipments, transport costs, and customer requirements.
- Manage transport-related administrative tasks, including data entry and reporting.
- Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in UK and export transport planning, logistics, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of international shipping procedures, export regulations, and customs requirements.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Proficient in using transport management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in handling documentation.
- Knowledge of Incoterms, international trade compliance, and freight forwarding processes is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work.
Education:
- A degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is preferred but not essential.
- Professional certifications in export or logistics management would be advantageous.
Working Hours:
- Monday to Friday, 8AM to 4PM
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet business needs.
