What are the responsibilities and job description for the SEASONAL HIGHWAY LABORER position at Isanti County?
**THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED**
This is a seasonal highway laborer position.
Approximate start date of May 30, 2024, and approximate end date of September 1, 2024.
HOURS: Generally 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday. Additional hours may be required outside of the normal work schedule for emergencies.
Wage is $16.00 - $18.00 per hour, depending on experience.
This is a non-union, non-benefit eligible position. Open Until Filled.
As a seasonal highway laborer position, employment shall not exceed 67 working days in a calendar year. Student seasonal employees, who are under the age of 22, a full-time student enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired and plan to be in or return to school after employment ends, may work 100 days in a calendar year.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under immediate supervision, performs manual labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads and bridges. Performs related work as assigned. Work is performed in the field. Most of these positions are only filled in the summer time through various work programs. An employee in this class performs assignments with little latitude for independent judgment. Assignments are checked for adherence to instructions and adequacy of performance. Wrong actions are usually discovered before serious consequences can develop.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

- Performs labor work in the construction, repair and maintenance of road surfaces, shoulders, slopes, and ditches.
- Assisting with the installation and replacement of highway culverts.
- Assist with sign installation.
- Traffic control flagging duties for roadway maintenance work zones.
- Weed and brush clearing along countywide roadsides.
- May serve as a member of a survey crew.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work mostly in outside weather conditions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to perform duties requiring physical strength and endurance.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of the techniques used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads and drainage facilities.
- Knowledge of County road system.
- Ability to do continuous heavy work requiring lifting, bending, and carrying.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
- Regular and timely work attendance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in operation of light equipment. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of equipment.
