Field Service Technician/Assembly Worker

Wage Range Maximum: Assembly (shop work) $26.45 and Field Service (in field work) $30.86 (plus up to 7% seniority pay which is awarded at 5/10/15 yr benchmarks)

Purpose of Job:

• This position is part of the Assembly Department and works on our equipment assembling, disassembling and troubleshooting. This position requires traveling to customer sites, including international travel. While working in the Field, the pay rate is higher than the Shop Assembly rate.

Responsibilities and Job Requirements:

• Applicant needs extensive experience in some type of mechanical equipment assembly, disassembly and troubleshooting. The applicant should understand the importance of clearances, tolerances, alignment and level.
• Ability to read/interpret engineered part and assembly drawings and technical documents related to assembly (ex.: bearing installation instructions, etc.)
• Requires the use of micrometers, calipers, machinist’s levels and other precision instruments.
• Ability to run a variety of shop tools such as; drill press, hydraulic press, sander, hand drill, induction bearing heater, and other assorted tools.
• Must have high quality standards and safe work habits.
• Must be willing to work overtime when needed for breakdown repairs with little notice.
• Must be able to travel on short notice (includes international travel) for machinery start-ups, repair, and inspections.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to pick up unfamiliar tasks, and get things started using available resources (i.e. blueprints, other technicians, engineering personnel)
• Must maintain a clean and organized service truck, which will be used by all Field Service team members.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with customers regarding technical matters as well as plans for service work.
• Must be able to work under pressure in machinery breakdown situations, in sometimes difficult conditions, to get customer’s machinery back into operation.
• Required to be in an “on call” pager rotation with other Field Service personnel.
• Ability to obtain a forklift license and operate a forklift safely.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., with infrequent lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Constantly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms during a standard 10-hour workday – may be required longer during Field Service trips.
• Must be able to lift above and below the shoulders, bend, twist, push and pull as needed.
• Must be able to rig and safely lift heavy and sometimes awkward items. This requires dexterity to arrange rigging and may require pushing and pulling to adjust the rigging or guide the load.
• Must be able to climb ladders and stairs as needed.
• Must be able to work on elevated work platforms on occasion.
• Must have sufficient strength and dexterity to operate a variety of hand tools such as drills, micrometers, calipers, levels, wrenches and other precision instruments.
• Must be able to work in areas that are not climate-controlled.
• Must be able to operate a forklift and able to step up and down to enter/exit forklift.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. .
