Job Title: Energy Modeler

Location: New York City, NY

Role: Hybrid (candidate must be located or willing to relocate to NYC metro area)


Position Overview:

As an Energy Modeler, you will be a key player in our mission to optimize energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment. Leveraging your expertise in modeling software, you will create, analyze, and refine energy models for a diverse range of projects in New York City and the surrounding areas. Your work will contribute directly to reducing energy consumption, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting sustainable building practices, including green building certifications like LEED & WELL.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Energy Modeling: Utilize Design Builder and other softwares to develop detailed energy models for new construction and retrofit projects, ensuring accurate representation of building systems, occupant behavior, and environmental conditions.
  2. Simulation and Analysis: Conduct dynamic simulations to assess building performance, including energy consumption, thermal comfort, daylighting, and indoor air quality. Analyze results to identify opportunities for energy savings and sustainability improvements.
  3. Data Collection: Gather and validate building data, such as architectural plans, HVAC specifications, lighting systems, and occupancy patterns, to create realistic input for energy models.
  4. Scenario Analysis: Perform sensitivity analyses and scenario simulations to evaluate the impact of various design and operational strategies on energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
  5. Green Building Certifications: Work closely with clients to ensure projects meet green building certification requirements, including LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, and Net Zero Energy, by integrating sustainable design principles and strategies into energy models.
  6. Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about local building codes, energy efficiency standards, and sustainability guidelines in New York City and assist clients in achieving compliance, including green building certifications.
  7. Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project goals, provide technical guidance, and present modeling results in a clear and understandable manner.
  8. Performance Optimization: Recommend energy-efficient design strategies, technologies, and systems based on modeling insights, green building certification criteria, and best practices.
  9. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing modeling results, energy-saving opportunities, and green building certification documentation for clients and project teams.
  10. Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of energy models by conducting quality checks and validating results against actual building performance data when available.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in energy modeling
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, HVAC, lighting, and building envelope design.
  • Familiarity with green building certification programs such as LEED, WELL, Fitwel, and Net Zero.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Familiarity with local energy codes and regulations in New York City.
