Job Summary:
Do you have a passion for providing technical services toward unparalleled, groundbreaking science? At Jefferson Lab, we are known around the world as a leader in accelerator science where cutting-edge research and technology is in the forefront of our projects. Our EESRF group is seeking an electronics technician. The focus of this group is to provide technical services to accelerator operations and other lab initiatives. Electrical systems under the RF group domain include high power RF drive systems, high voltage power supplies, support interlock and monitoring equipment. The incumbent will assist senior staff in the implementation, maintenance and repair of these systems using analog and digital electronics. Duties for this position include printed circuit board testing and repair, soldering, chassis wiring and field cable fabrication and installation. Additionally, the incumbent will be expected to use basic hand tools and display mechanical aptitude under supervision.
Essential Job Functions:
Following verbal and written guidance to diagnose, repair and calibrate analog and digital electronics modules down to the component level
Providing real-time support of existing RF systems
Following guidance from supervisor or senior team leaders in installation and testing of RF systems and upgrades
Reading electrical schematics to facilitate repair and maintenance of hardware
Following guidance from supervisor to conduct electrical work on equipment in accordance with established safety standards
Use electronics skills to assemble, test and calibrate electronics within chassis assemblies or printed circuit boards (PCB)
Preventative maintenance tasks on electronics components and the associated assemblies
Required Qualifications:
AS degree with 3 years relevant experience or High School Graduate with 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
in electrical theory and experience with analog and digital electronics repair.
Capability to use electrical schematics to troubleshoot electronics components
Knowledge of electrical measurement equipment including handheld meters, oscilloscopes and analyzers.
Some proficiency in various applications of electrical measure equipment.
Able to communicate in writing and verbally explain work to supervisor and others in the group.
Able to speak to group activities in a general informative meeting
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in repair, testing and calibration of electronic equipment
Ability to lead minor repair and testing efforts.
