EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.This is a highly responsible supervisory position that, under general supervision, enforces environmental pollution control laws/regulation and develops/updates programs and policy. Duties include planning, management, coordination and implementation of the Solid Waste and Recycling Programs, the Brownfields Redevelopment Program, and the Vector/Nuisance Pest Control Programs, ensuring Parish, industrial, commercial, and residential compliance with local, state and federal regulations and Parish contracts. Coordinates and provides technical support to industrial, commercial and residential property owners and other parish departments and local municipalities. Employee applies the techniques, principles and policies of the appropriate science or engineering guidance to the solution of environmental problems. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.Current employment and permanent civil service status in the class of Environmental Quality Specialist plus one (1) year of professional, paid work experience involving the enforcement regulations in such program areas as industrial pretreatment, storm water management, and coastal zone management;
SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a Master's Degree in one of the above areas may substitute for one (1) year of work experience as described above.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.

Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, Geology, Geography, or a closely related degree, plus two (2) years of professional paid environmental regulatory work experience involving the enforcement of environmental regulations or the implementation of environmental programs.SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a Master's Degree in one of the above areas may substitute for one (1) year of work experience as described above.
