Railcar / Locomotive Switchman
Department : SSR Operations
Location : Major movements inside JSW premises and Barge dock
Reports To : Supervisor/Manager (SSR Operations)
Position Summary:
The Railcar / Locomotive Switchman is responsible for safely coordinating and performing
locomotive switching operations within the facility. This includes coupling and uncoupling
railcars, aligning switches, and ensuring timely and eƯicient rail movements to support
production and logistics requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operate locomotive switches to facilitate railcar movement and placement within the
facility.
2. Perform coupling and uncoupling of railcars and inspect railcar connections for
safety.
3. Align and secure rail switches according to the operational requirements.
4. Communicate eƯectively with the locomotive operator and other crew members to
ensure safe and eƯicient operations.
5. Conduct pre- and post-operation checks on rail equipment and report any issues or
defects.
6. Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies during switching
operations.
7. Maintain accurate records of railcar movements and other operational activities.
8. Assist in resolving switching or logistical issues as needed.
9. Collaborate with internal teams to meet production and shipment schedules.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Previous experience in rail switching or locomotive operations is required.
Strong understanding of rail safety procedures and regulations.
Physical ability to perform tasks involving manual labor, such as coupling and
aligning railcars.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Flexibility to work in shifts and handle on-demand switching requirements.
Preferred Skills:
Certification or formal training in locomotive operations or rail switching (if
applicable).
Experience in industrial or manufacturing settings.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
