What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Just Salad?
The accounting team is looking for a Staff Accountant to join the Just Salad team. You will play a key role in the day-to-day financial and accounting operations as well as the monthly close process. You will also be responsible for upholding Just Salad’s mission to make everyday health and sustainability possible.

This position is onsite in the NYC office.
Reports to: Accounting Manager; also working closely with the Senior Accountant and Controller.
We value partnership, incubate good ideas, inspire passion, and celebrate innovation. As the Staff Accountant, you are responsible for exemplifying the company culture as well as:
- Prepare and record journal entries and accruals for month end close.
- Treasury operations, including wire transfers, check payments, stop payments, check voids, and bank sweeps.
- Assist the Finance team in preparing a Daily Sales Report for upper management.
- Involvement in monthly review and analysis of A/P, A/R, and financial close, including closely communicating with internal managers, outside A/P consultants, and vendors.
- Review bank reconciliations and prepare balance sheet reconciliations monthly.
- Prepare Monthly and Quarterly State Sales & Use Tax Returns.
- Provide data and reports to the auditors and tax firm for the financial statement audit and tax returns.
- Review existing processes, structures, and systems to assist in the identification of improvement opportunities with a focus on simplification, standardization, and optimization, especially the reduction of manual, Excel-based activities.
- Assist in the identification and resolution of accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Assist with other areas of accounting and complete special ad hoc reporting projects as needed.
- In line with Just Salad’s mission to make everyday health and sustainability possible, support ESG accounting, reporting, and analyses.
Qualifications:
- BS Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 0-2 years accounting experience. Big Four experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite Applications.
- Detail oriented with strong critical thinking abilities.
- Strong Communication Skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Self-starter who is both interested and willing to take on an expanded role over time.
- Ideal candidates will be interested in or already in pursuit of CPA licensure.
