The Role

Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest is seeking a full-time Career Specialist to join our Career Services Department. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Career Services, this position is responsible for providing case management for individuals in need of obtaining industry-recognized credentials and employment opportunities. In addition, assisting with how to utilize LiLA funding for training, employment, and wrap-around services. Additional tasks include running in-house and virtual job clubs, developing connections to critical support services, community agencies, and employers.

Essential Functions

  • Provide career services to individuals qualified for Lifelong Learning Accounts (LiLA).
  • Complete client intakes that include all registration documents and uploading documentation to online case management system.
  • Manage a caseload and provide career services for credentialed training opportunities and job placement which includes career exploration, career coaching, individualized employment plans, resumes, interview preparation, applications, employer networking, and manage decisions about how to utilize LiLA funding.
  • Assist participants navigate successful outcomes, including the attainment of industry-recognized credentials, entry and advancement in employment opportunities.
  • Facilitate credentialed training or post-secondary education applications.
  • Ensure connections to critical support services such as childcare and housing partners.
  • Monitor participant progress and maintain accurate activity records, case notes enabling effective tracking, evaluation, planning and reporting of individual progress through on-line case management system.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers and community agencies.
  • Recruitment of target populations for services which includes community outreach and marketing.
  • Maintain and track database of candidate information, job postings, local employers, and small business owners.
  • Lead career and life skills training groups for job seekers.
  • Complete program summary reports for employers, funders, JVS leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to motivate and support clients from a wide variety of backgrounds and ages.
  • Performs other duties consistent with program needs and not calling for materially different skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in career and employment services preferred
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & Zoom
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and clients from diverse cultural, socio-economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds is required.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of clients at all levels of the organization.
  • Effective presentation and facilitation skills are required.
  • Knowledge of community resources and web-based resources preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
