Role of Job:
Leads and manages the maintenance and electrical department in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner to meet operations requirements to support KaMin‘s business strategies, operating initiatives and financial objectives.
Dimensions of Job:
- One or more plant locations with 250-500 thousand tons per year operating year-round, 24 hours/day
- Manages 14 employees and multiple contract employees performing mechanical and electrical engineering functions
- Accountable for developing maintenance budget and assuring that it is achieved
Principal Accountabilities: (Four to ten statements of accountability which can be observed or measured.)
Supports KaMin’s strategy, annual operating plan and budget by developing and managing the implementation of short to long range objectives and budget for the maintenance department that are coordinated with other operations departments.- Ensures that equipment maintenance is conducted in a timely manner that minimizes downtime by serving as a key interface with Engineering, Production and Mining operations to coordinate requirements, and by managing the prioritization and scheduling of preventive, reactive and predictive maintenance.
- Ensures cost-effective maintenance support by:
- Maintaining complete, timely and accurate data
- Instituting cost control methods
- Identifying process improvements and equipment requirements.
- Ensures that quality standards for maintenance department are upheld by writing and monitoring applicable ISO 9000 procedures and by assuring that training is provided as necessary.
- Ensures department compliance with health, safety and environmental initiatives that provide yearly improvement, and improves sector environmental management systems by auditing and enforcing procedures, by monitoring and improving equipment emissions levels, and by assuring that training is provided as necessary.
- Promotes KaMin vision, principles, and the desired culture by developing the skills and leadership competencies of staff, and by creating a working environment that fosters motivation.
May have other accountabilities pertaining to the facilities and projects.

- Staying abreast of applicable safety, health and environmental regulations
Decision Making Authority:
- Decides and approves appropriations requests up to specified limit equipment requests, repairs, process changes, etc.
- Recommends staffing decisions
- Decides need for temporary and contract employees; workflow, training, performance, and first line disciplinary issues
- Decides operating and procedural issues regarding maintenance (training, use of equipment, staff utilization, etc.)
- Lockout or shutdown equipment to prevent or remove safety hazard.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum 2 year technical college degree with college degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a technically related area.
- Demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of preventive maintenance, vibration analysis, oil analysis and engineering principles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance requirements of mineral processing equipment, including spray drying, cryogenic systems, magnetic separator, computers, controllers, plant electrical systems and processes.
- Working knowledge of computer systems and software.
