Provides technical experienced guidance to develop and manage activities and programs directed toward preventing accidents, eliminating health and safety hazards and achieving compliance with current health, safety, and environment (HS&E) regulations and Department of Energy (DOE) directives. Works under administrative direction only with considerable latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions.

Duties And Responsibilities
- May influence strategic planning for and plans for major technical projects or more than one project of major scope and complexity that significantly impact the business.
- Provide technical leadership and direction for the department with coordination from other leaders.
- Provides mentorship and technical, experienced guidance to other HS&E team members.
- Advises and consults as technical expert to other technical and administrative personnel to drive and implement short and long-term projects.
- Reviews plant facilities, equipment, materials, and work practices to identify unsafe conditions and assure implementation of appropriate hazard controls.
- Reviews proposed layouts, facility design drawings and equipment specifications for safety hazards and documents findings for corrective action.
- Develops and conducts activities and programs directed toward preventing accidents, eliminating health and safety hazards and achieving compliance with current health, safety, and environment (HS&E) regulations and Department of Energy (DOE) directives.
- Develops safety and health orientations and training programs for employees.
- Prepares applicable reports required by DOE or regulatory agencies.
- Investigates accidents to determine causes and recommends action to prevent recurrence.
- Works with plant supervision, union representation and employees to resolve safety and health concerns.
- Ensures the effective implementation of safety and health requirements.
- Leads, directs, influences or coordinates the work of projects, programs, products or components for HS&E with responsibility for project objectives, completion dates, and technical specifications.
- Supports Operational Readiness Reviews, Beneficial Occupancy Inspections, Hazard Assessments, Risk Assessment, and other investigations.
- 7 years in a professional HS&E role, with experience implementing advanced HS&E engineering principles and technology related to highly complex technical assignments.
- Bachelor's degree in an HS&E related field; an advanced degree or certifications are preferred.
- Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
- Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
- United States Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
- Prior experience mentoring engineers is a plus.
- Prior strategy experience is a plus.
- Ability to apply advanced HS&E engineering and analytical concepts and techniques to highly complex technical projects.
- Ability to work without supervision and to provide technical consultation and guidance.
- Ability to understand, interpret and implement safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to review and interpret facility design drawings.
- Must possess good communication skills in one-on-one situations and group settings.
- Good writing skills required; must be able to document information and data clearly and concisely.
