- Provide general supervision of staff and students.
- Implement and adhere to all district policies and procedures specified by the Board of Education, the State of Michigan and the U.S. Department of Education.
- Ensure that teachers understand and deliver instruction through the utilization of the District’s approved curriculum and provide appropriate assessments to ensure student learning and growth
- Ensure that staff receives appropriate professional learning including utilizing professional learning communities.
- Ensure that data is utilized to drive, inform, and differentiate instruction. Ensure that culturally responsive teaching techniques and strategies are utilized to enhance student learning and growth.
- Utilize the evaluation process to provide timely feedback for staff and student development and growth
- Provide appropriate social-emotional and community-oriented services and supports for students.
- With the assistance of special education administrative staff, lead the special education referral process. Provide for the appropriate inclusion of special education students in the total school environment.
- Ensure that resources for English Language Learners are allocated and that students are receiving appropriate services.
- Provide leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programming, co-curricular activities, and extra-curricular activities.
- Support district assessment needs and coordinate efforts to facilitate testing related to District common assessments, M-STEP, WIDA, and other state and national assessments.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and community organizations.
- Identify staff professional development needs and encourages professional growth of teachers to ensure high levels of student learning.
- Support and implement Multi-tiered Systems of Support.
- Implement and monitor Positive Behavior Support (PBIS) systems as a means of nurturing school climate.
- Promote a school environment that will enable learning to occur in a meaningful manner in a climate of high expectations for self, staff, student and parents.
- Utilize restorative justice practices and implement alternatives to out-of-school suspensions
- Keep abreast of current educational practices regarding the academic, social and physical preparation of students to ensure the school continues to meet the needs of all students.
- Provide ongoing opportunities for family and community involvement.
- Develop and maintain community partnerships that enhance and support instruction leading to student achievement.
- Plan and coordinate extra-curricular activities for students
- Provide for the supervision of students during non-instructional hours (before school, lunch, after school, bus loading and unloading)
- Ability and desire to work as an effective member of the administrative team
- Ensure the building/program operations comply pursuant to all District, local, state and federal laws and guidelines.

- Master’s Degree in administration, supervision or education preferred. (Pursuant to 380.1246 and District expectations, the individual in this position must either hold a valid Michigan school administrator’s certificate or not later than 6 months after he or she begins employment as a school administrator enroll in a program leading to certification as a school administrator and must complete the program within 3 years.)
- Previous experience as a principal or in a similar position preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience, required.
- International Baccalaureate experience preferred

POSITION PURPOSE:
The elementary principal serves as the educational and administrative leader of the school. This position is responsible for establishing the building as an IB Program, ensuring the mission, vision, and school improvement plans reflect the IB mission and philosophy through revisiting and articulation with the school community. This position is responsible for working collaboratively to foster an environment that ensures equity and excellence for all. The building principal must be able to establish and maintain positive relations and communicate effectively with parents, staff and members of the community. The building principal is responsible for planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, extracurricular activities, personnel management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations.
