About This Role:

The Senior Student Conduct and Education Officer leads initiatives and processes that teach students the Code of Conduct and ensure their compliance with it.

Investigates and adjudicates student code of conduct violations, The Senior Student Conduct and Education Officer oversees campus community education efforts that focus on student behavior and works collaboratively with campus constituents to facilitate educational programming. Primarily responsible for developing, leading, and facilitating behavior intervention strategies based on education, engagement, and accountability frameworks.

This individual will advise fraternities supporting the success and development of members across chapters. Promote an inclusive, healthy, and engaged fraternity community, overseeing chapter compliance, recruitment, risk prevention and response, and community relations.

The position reports to Director of Student Conduct & Care Services, in concert to indirect reporting to the Director of New Student & Leadership Programs/Greek Life on fraternities and sororities.

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities

  • Represent Lamar University at student disciplinary hearings, coordinates student disciplinary hearings when they occur; receives, investigates, and processes student conduct referrals as assigned by the Director of Student Conduct & Care Services.
  • Conduct, pre-hearing meetings with students, faculty, staff, and others when appropriate
  • Guide and counsel, the university community regarding student disciplinary matters
  • Support departments, faculty, and staff in responding to possible violations of university rules, regulations, and policies via the student judicial process, and take action to ensure sanctions are properly implemented
  • Maintains a close working relationship regarding fraternities with the Director of New Student & Leadership Programs/Greek Life.
  • Liaise between the Student Engagement departments, Lamar University Police, and other departments
  • Assist in the development of short and long-term plans for programs, monitor progress, assure adherence, and evaluate effectiveness and efficiencies
  • Serves on various committees and workgroups, to include CARE Team, Threat Assessment Workgroup, and Clery Act Compliance Team
  • Monitor and provide timely assistance to students in crises, coordinate with LU Police and Student Health Center
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and yearly reports and analysis related to student conduct, mitigation efforts, and educational programming
  • Provides both proactive and responsive training to faculty and staff on behavioral intervention, student conduct, and other behavioral matters
  • Responsible for developing behavior intervention strategies for students based on assessed need
  • Upholds students’ rights and responsibilities within the student conduct process and the campus community
  • Assists students in navigating college grievance and/or appeal processes
  • Prepares written investigation summaries and other correspondence related to the student conduct cases
  • Creates and maintains student behavioral records in a disciplinary tracking software (i.e. Maxient)
  • Develops and presents educational opportunities and programs to students, faculty, and staff focused on preventative measures
  • Responsible for providing direction to students and employees from inception to resolution of an incident
  • Provides immediate and ongoing support of referral of resources for students of concern or in crisis including, but not limited to, referrals to campus resources and outside agencies (e.g., counseling, housing, food, legal)
  • Participates in professional associations and on-going trainings and certifications in the areas of behavioral intervention, student conduct, Clery Act; remain familiar with Title IX protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight 10 lbs.; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years of advisory experience in higher education,
  • 1 year experience dealing with fraternities and/or sororities on risk management, and compliance.
  • Experience with Clery Act, Title IX, VAWA , and various Federal and State Laws
  • 1-year of experience working with fraternities and/or sororities
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and similar programs
