What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursery Sales Associate position at Landscape Garden Centers?
Position Purpose: To sell quality trees, shrubs, and perennials while providing unmatched service to customers in the nursery, retail center and greenhouse, as well as care for the plant material at our garden center. Must be passionate, approachable and detailed oriented with a desire to learn.
Essential Functions and Typical Tasks:
I. Function: Prepare merchandise for sale.
A. Typical Tasks:
- Maintain quality plants and assist with watering, fertilization and pest control.
- Maintain proper sanitation and cleanliness.
- Receive, price and display plant material and garden center merchandise.
- Ensure all products are tagged with appropriate identification and signage.
- Communicate with Nursery Team Leader regarding inventory, dumpage, needed repairs and supplies and product health issues. Record information as required.
B. Performance Meets Minimum Expectations When:
- Plants are maintained so there is little, if any, dumpage.
- Proper sanitation is consistently maintained as required by supervisor.
- Tagging and pricing is accomplished accurately and timely.
- Customer feedback is positive.
- Required records are consistently and accurately maintained as mandated by supervisor.
II. Function: Sell merchandise.
A. Typical Tasks:
- Greet and direct customers according to their needs.
- Respond to customer questions.
- Maintain familiarity with current inventory.
- Maintain knowledge of nursery stock, annuals, perennials, houseplants and all accessory products.
- Direct complaints to a department Team Leader or the Garden Center Manager.
- Issue guarantees based on company policy.
- Prepare premises at opening and secure premises at closing.
B. Performance meets Minimum Expectations When:
1. Department sales goals are met within acceptable tolerances.
2. Customer feedback is positive.
3. Premises are maintained and secure.
III. Function: Assist with plant and product display.
- Typical Tasks:
1. Move inventory as necessary to fill voids and maintain a complete, fresh look.
2. Create visually inviting displays with product and plant material.
3. Visually check inventories and become familiar with sales trends.
4. Keep nursery clean and organized.
- Performance Meets Minimum Expectations When:
1. Displays are orderly and visually attractive as evidenced by supervisor.
2. Customer feedback is positive.
Experience/Education/Skills:
Experience in the green industry preferred.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Pesticide Applicators License and skid loader experience beneficial.
