What are the responsibilities and job description for the Testing & Outreach Specialist position at Latin American Youth Center?
The Testing & Outreach Specialist is a full-time position expected to work 40 hours a week. LAYC’s Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Program provides testing for HIV, STI, pregnancy, risk reduction counseling, pregnancy options counseling, and support to ensure linkages to health care and social services. We provided a curriculum that aims to create an “army” of youth who are trained as peer educators to promote healthy sexuality, reproductive health, managing diapers and reproductive health programming to support expectant and parenting youth in the DMV area. The Testing & Outreach Specialist is responsible for coordinating all testing and outreach efforts for the SRH Team, managing the in-house testing, outreach calendar and mobile testing unit. They are also responsible for identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships with community partners.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Become HIV, STI, and Pregnancy Testing certified withing two months of employment start date.
- Ensure that HIV test, STI test and other tests are conducted every month.
- Coordinate with the Washington AIDS Partnership (WAP) service member, Peer Educator, SRH Youth Developer (SWAT), and SRH Coordinator to ensure there are testers at each outreach and in-house testing hours.
- Ensure STI urine samples are sent to the lab and that positive results are shared with clients.
- Seek out and receive requests for possible outreach efforts in DC and at all LAYC locations.
- Ensure all intake forms for each client are entered into the ETO data system.
- Drive the mobile testing unit to outreach locations when necessary.
- Maintain the testing room and mobile testing unit to standard, ensure that all needed supplies are available for testers and nurse practitioners.
- Support SRH Coordinator with intern management.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelor’s degree or two years of youth development experience.
- Minimum 2 years of youth development experience; school-based experience is a plus.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of community and local resources.
- Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings for school events.
- Driver license required.
- Bilingual or fluent/proficient: English and Spanish required.
- Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
- Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
- Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.
- LAYC/MMYC requires the COVID-19 vaccine of all its employees. You will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at the time of your interview and at your onboarding.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
