Job Description: We are looking for a full-time Attorney with at least 2 years of experience in Special Education to represent children with disabilities and conservatorships. However, attorneys with limited to no experience will also be considered for this position. In this role, you will attend Individualized Educational Program (IEP) meetings, participate in mediations and hearings, write complaints, and be an essential member of our legal team. This is a hybrid position, requiring
75% remote work and 25% travel.
*Note that newly barred attorneys with limited to no experience will be considered for Associate Attorney position
Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with evolving tasks and responsibilities, stepping in as needed for IEP meetings, court preparation sessions, hearings, and consultation meetings.
- Research and analyze the likely outcomes of cases, utilizing knowledge of legal precedents.
- Draft various documents and correspondence related to special education, including but not limited to client documents, complaints, memorandums, and motions.
- Communicate with various stakeholders, such as school districts, parents, and other attorneys, via telephone, email, and in-person meetings.
- Maintain excellent client relationships through effective communication via phone, email, virtual platforms, and in-person interactions.
- Prepare thoroughly and in detail for each phase of litigation.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) (preferred, but not required).
- J.D. (law degree) from an accredited law school (required).
- Active member of the California State Bar- (required)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience representing clients in Special Education and
- conservatorships (preferred, but not required).
- Strong knowledge of federal and state laws related to Special Education, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) (preferred, but not required).
- Excellent written, communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills (required)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a dedicated legal team (required)
- Resides within the Los Angeles or Inland Empire areas (required)
