Head Teacher - After School Program
Leila Day is in search of a creative, organized, art fluent, nature based educator for our After School Program. Lead teachers are responsible for cultivating an environment of creativity, curiosity, exploration, and joy while supporting the emergent ideas of young children and helping them grow and learn. The Leila Day After School Program supports families with children in grades K-3. Salary is dependent upon experience and education.
Duties
Lead teachers will help children problem-solve through play, express themselves through language, print, art,and multiple sign systems, nurture a joyful appreciation for one’s bodily self, support ethical values and emotional intelligence, develop multural-cultural literacies and cultural dignity, and foster authentic connections with the natural world. The lead teacher will be expected to take children on outdoor adventures at least three times a week, lead their team, maintain an orderly classroom and use the environment as another “teacher,” communicate with parents, complete necessary paperwork, and collaborate with the administration and other staff.
Requirements
We are looking for someone with experience in outdoor education with this age group (or at a minimum, a willingness to spend time with children outdoors and in the woods, and a commitment to learn more about outdoor education), who can physically keep up with a rambunctious group of 6-11 year olds, and can work cooperatively with the head teacher to further the goals of the afterschool program.
Hours are 2:30-5:30, with additional subbing hours during the school day, if interested. Salary is dependent upon experience and education. Please submit a cover letter with your application.
