Overview:
**Starting salary will not exceed 10 percent of the base salary**
Representative duties and tasks expected of the Accountant I are listed below. This list does not include marginal tasks that are also performed but are incidental to the primary functions. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position, nor does every position allocated to the class necessarily perform every duty listed.
- Purchasing Card Management –
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the purchasing card program.
- Review, reconcile, and allocate purchasing card transactions accurately and promptly.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with company policies for purchasing card usage.
- Collaborate with cardholders to resolve any issues or discrepancies related to purchasing card transactions.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of supporting documentation for reconciliations.
- Financial Reconciliation
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reconciliations.
- Identify and investigate any discrepancies in financial records related to purchasing card transactions.
- Reporting and analysis
- Prepare regular reports on purchasing card usage, including spending trends and budget variances.
- Analyze data to identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, or policy enhancements.
- Assist in preparing financial reports and presentations as required.
- Process Improvement
- Continuously review and assess existing General Accounting processes to identify opportunities for automation, streamlining, and efficiency improvements
- Suggest and implement control measures to minimize risks associated with purchasing card usage.
- General Accounting Support
- Provide support to the broader accounting team as needed.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Other related tasks as assigned.
Licensure or Certification Requirements:
May require a driver’s license if assigned to transport files among facilities or assigned to a remote office.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, and ABILITIES:
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail and accuracy, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Candidates should exhibit the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively both within a team and with external partners. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or a related field. Prior experience or coursework in accounting is preferred but not required.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to resolve routine and non-routine problems in a professional, standardized manner.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to use a calculator.
