Psychologists, LCSWs and LMFTs are encouraged to consider a new Clinical Director position with Liberty Healthcare.
Liberty Healthcare operates a 10-bed acute psychiatric hospital within the Maguire Correctional Facility - a San Mateo County jail located in Redwood City, CA.
This unit provides high quality psychiatric care to adults with mental illness and/or co-occurring substance abuse disorders who are in acute crisis – many of whom are conserved and/or incompetent to stand trial.
The Clinical Director role focuses on planning, implementing, and managing the unit’s clinical services, while assuring quality care is provided to patients in a safe environment.
This position involves both management and direct patient care responsibilities, including:
- Helping ensure patients receive high quality care
- Assessing patients, collaborating on treatment plans, and observing response to treatment
- Providing patient-centered mental health services
- Providing leadership, training, consultation, and professional development to clinical and ancillary staff
- Participating in legal hearings and clinical committee meetings
- Cultivating harmonious relationships with County officials and law enforcement professionals
- Partnering with Liberty’s payroll, HR, recruiting, finance, quality assurance and operations teams
- Participating in peer review, utilization management, incident reporting, performance improvement, and quality assurance initiatives
- Scheduling staff / assuring optimal staffing levels
- Championing diversity, equity and inclusion while fostering a mission driven, high performance culture
- Supporting the Executive Director in the management of the unit and assuming leadership responsibilities during absences
As a full-time employee of Liberty Healthcare in this role, you can expect:
- Starting salary between $100,000 and $155,000 (depending on degree, licensure and experience)

You are a good fit for this position if you possess the following:
- Professional licensure in California as a Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Experience providing clinical services to adults who are experiencing acute mental illness – ideally within a jail, prison, forensic hospital or inpatient, correctional or residential psychiatric setting
- Management / leadership experience
- Knowledge of California’s mental health laws and statutes
