Description
Lick-Wilmerding High School seeks a dedicated movement, SEL, and health educator to join the Body-Mind Education Department (BME)’s ninth-grade team beginning January 2024 for a one-semester sabbatical leave. The BME department is a collaborative, supportive, student-centered team that nurtures students’ capacity to be active in their own social, emotional, and physical wellbeing, providing tools for developing self-awareness, building positive relationships with self and others, and learning to navigate the joys and challenges of their lives with perspective, wisdom, and skill.
The ideal candidate will teach four sections of Body-Mind Education (movement, SEL, and Health & Wellness sessions) to ninth-graders in collaboration with the ninth-grade team. We are looking for expertise and teaching experience in a body-mind movement discipline that combines physicality with social-emotional learning, and is compatible with our current Fitness and Fun class. Ideas of compatible disciplines include: Yoga, Pilates, Indoor Top-Rope Rock Climbing (must have or be willing to earn a safety certification), or another similar body-mind discipline.

Qualifications

Experience working in a health-related field, or teaching health classes, as well as experience in teaching a movement discipline

A commitment to equity and culturally responsive, anti-racist instruction in the BME classroom, which invites all students to learn

Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others on the ninth-grade Health and Wellness and SEL curriculum

Ability to collaborate with a team to continue developing and administering our ninth-grade and contribute to the holistic vision of the department

Experience with student-centered teaching and learning, including differentiated instruction for students across various academic and social backgrounds

Commitment to using multiple teaching modalities, hands-on experimentation and various forms of assessment in the classroom

Demonstrated interest in curriculum development, innovation, and professional growth

Excellent oral and written communication skills
Salary Range:
In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base annual salary range for a full time teacher of $72,500 to $144,700 depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications, which will be adjusted for one semester and 80% time. Pay ranges at LWHS are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at LWHS, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer.
