What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Medical Staff Services position at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center?
This position is a management position with accountability for daily operations and supervisory functions. This position works collaboratively with the Director, Medical Staff leadership and Administrative leadership regarding credentialing and privileging, Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional policies and procedures, Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations, and to ensure regulatory compliance.
The manager ensures regulatory compliance in the day-to-day functions of Medical Staff Services. The manager guides the Medical Staff leaders in proper credentialing procedures and quality issues, and oversees the day-to-day credentialing processes for physicians and allied health professionals. The manager is responsible for other Medical Staff functions including, but not limited to, medical staff committee and department meetings, medical staff representation in hospital-wide committees and functions, and communication with the medical staff. The manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the staff in the Medical Staff Services Department.
Provide leadership as the initial resource for the Department processes involving the initial appointment, reappointment process, OPPE and temporary privileges process as defined by facility Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and policies and procedures for LBMC, MCWHLB,. Ongoing assessment and guidance in the development/modifications of delineation of clinical privileges. Monitor flow of information from medical staff committees through to the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Board. Liaison to medical staff leaders, hospital administration and key internal customers with regard to medical staff and allied health professional matters
Provides leadership with training where needed, establishes guidelines for use and accuracy of credentials data base in conjunction with the Director. Work in coordination with credentialing verification organization and other sister facilities regarding credentialing processes.
Responsible for management of Credentials Committee(s) and Medical Executive Committee(s) and Medical Staff Affairs Committee, Quality Committee functions, including agenda preparation, minutes preparation, follow up issues, etc. Facilitates the Medical Staff leadership reports to the Governing Board
Experience
- Five years’ experience in a Medical Staff Services Department; knowledge of medico-legal issues and laws, regulatory agency requirements and standards; medical terminology; strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Requires independent problem solving skills and decision making abilities; flexibility, perseverance, and diplomacy.
- CPMSM and/or CPCS certification preferred, but not required
