What You Will Do
As a member of the Personnel Security group, reporting to the Access Control Team Leader, you will serve a vital function for the Laboratory's Badge Office. The issuance of badges is a gatekeeper function for the Laboratory and is a critical security element for protection of our nation's security assets. You will use your skillset to help workers obtain and maintain their badge by using various databases to complete the required steps for determining badge eligibility and maintenance. You will work with other teams in Personnel Security to ensure only authorized individuals are issued a badge. You will provide support to Badge Office staff and LANL customers utilizing databases, track day-to-day activities, manage workflow, and arrange staffing to accommodate appointments for intended badge holders. You will be required to learn all requirements applicable to Access Control and will participate in the achievement of organizational goals for programmatic, business, and operational excellence. You will also be responsible for promoting safety, security, and quality in all operations; exercising prudent fiscal and property management; promoting teamwork within the organization and promoting a positive work environment.

Receiving minimal direction from your Team Leader, your primary responsibility will be to establish schedules and methods to ensure that work is being completed in accordance with local and federal policies. You will perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature with frequent interruptions and/or distractions. This position will require meticulous attention to detail. You will maintain records, extract, and analyze trends, and report out monthly metrics.
Personnel Security is one of the busiest groups at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Your attention to detail and ability to work well with other individuals, groups and independently will be a major part of obtaining success in this position.

In-depth experience collaborating in a cohesive team in a high-volume customer service focused security/business environment. Proven effective and positive technical lead experience in Security disciplines and/or related experience. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with multiple internal and external organizations while working towards a common goal of completing the LANL mission while maintaining security. Interact diplomatically with various LANL organizations while ensuring security compliance.
Problem Solving:
Extensive experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security and safeguards programs and administration. This should include identifying problem areas, looking at cost implications, and recommending potential solutions. Make appropriate job decisions following LANL Security policies. Independently plan and conduct walk-around that focus on topical security areas. Brief management on findings and identify and assess effectiveness of solutions. The ability to resolve moderate operational problems and recommend changes in program procedures for improvement.
Communication:
Skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports to a diverse audience including managers within and outside the organization. Create and deliver presentations/awareness pieces to provide information and instruction on a variety of job-related topics. Usually on short notice to a diverse audience set.
Audit and Implementation:
Thorough experience in conducting security audits, inspections, self-assessments, and developing appropriate corrective actions.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Security, Law Enforcement, or related field and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
