Founded in 1990, LS Power is a developer, investor and operator of power generation, transmission and energy infrastructure projects in North America and operates with offices in several states including NY, NJ, CA, MO and TX. Since its inception, LS Power has invested over $48 billion to construct, acquire and operate such projects, including over $10 billion in committed equity capital across our four flagship private equity funds and related investment partnerships. LS Power has developed and constructed more than 660 miles of transmission infrastructure and has additional projects in the construction and planning stages. LS Power is seeking an Associate for our Private Equity team to support LS Power’s growth in new areas, including many related to decarbonization and the low-carbon energy transition. Reporting to LS Power’s Senior Vice President for Business Development, the Associate will work across both LS Power’s Private Equity fund and development arm to identify, diligence, and execute on investments and initiatives in areas such as low-carbon power, resource efficiency, hydrogen, carbon capture, and digital infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Support LS Power's entry into new businesses via both M&A and organic development
- Inform internal views on the attractiveness of new subsectors and technologies, through fundamental economic modeling, market sizing, industry research, and company diligence
- Support execution of different development and investment initiatives by building financial models, gathering industry data points, coordinating due diligence, crafting commercial terms, and compiling internal materials to inform decisions
- Perform financial analysis related to potential investments including: net present value, internal rate of return, merger consequences, projected cash-flow, and cost-benefit analysis
- Use granular plant production, dispatch and cost information, independent assumptions, and material provided or derived from third-party consultants and counterparties
- Conduct industry and company research related to plant costs and regulatory/economic trends
- Develop investment committee memos, rating agency presentations and marketing materials
- Assist in execution of financings, M&A transactions and due diligence efforts
- Contribute to external communications such as op-eds, conference presentations, etc.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in private equity, investment banking, or management consulting
- Strong financial modeling skills
- Experience across the full lifecycle of a transaction – screening, development of investment thesis, due diligence, negotiation of terms, closing
- Previous exposure to the clean energy and/or electric utility sectors
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to communicate effectively on a conceptual as well as on a technical level
- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, banking, and analysis/reporting of financial data
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail
- Strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial organization
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, economics, business, engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university
