What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Clerk position at Lubbock County?
- Review all types of data, including pay rate changes, status changes, job code changes, and tax status changes
- Enter/Upload work and leave hours into the computer. Review bi-weekly time sheets for payment.
- Research and respond to employee inquiries.
- Compliance with payroll laws, federal guidelines, and child support orders and other garnishments.
- Prepare, assist or maintain accurate Payroll spreadsheets, precise reports, schedules and work papers as required. Maintains Departmental Job Slot.
- Process Payroll distribution and Accounts Payable checks and reports.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, employees and elected officials to promote ultimate service
- Recommend payroll system enhancements to comply with laws, regulations, tax requirements, reporting procedures, accounting policies and organizational needs.
- Imaging payroll documents. File documents and maintain confidential personnel records.
- This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May perform other duties as assigned to maintain operations.
- Reports directly to Lubbock County Payroll Manager
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: General accounting procedures; Office practices and procedures; General knowledge of county government organization and services; Record keeping and filing procedures; Perform computer processing and spreadsheet functions; Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing EXCEL software; Read and understand instructions; Perform basic mathematical calculations; Analyze and interpret data; Maintain accurate records and files; Detail oriented; Proper public contact and telephone etiquette; Spell and use correct grammar; Prioritize and schedule work to meet deadlines; Communicate effectively orally and in writing; Work independently in the absence of specific instructions; and Establish and maintain effective working relationships with county employees and the general public.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Maintain the ability to occasionally stand, walk, kneel, and bend during the shift; Reach, grip and use fine dexterity; Push and pull objects; Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees; Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds; Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing; place arms above, at or below shoulder height; Use of vision and depth perception; ability to communicate clearly.
