Produce Buyer

We are seeking an experienced Produce Buyer to join our procurement team, bringing expertise in identifying and sourcing top-tier products while maintaining supplier relationships and managing inventory to meet our operational needs.

Job Summary:
The Produce Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing a wide range of fresh produce and perishable foods. This role requires deep knowledge of the produce industry, including seasonal trends, product quality standards, and supply chain management. The ideal candidate will have a strong network of suppliers and a proven track record of purchasing fruits, vegetables, and other perishable items at competitive prices while ensuring product freshness and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Source and purchase fresh produce (vegetables, fruits, and other perishable foods) in line with company quality standards and customer demand.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with growers, suppliers, and distributors to ensure consistent product availability and competitive pricing.
• Monitor market trends, seasonal availability, and price fluctuations to make informed purchasing decisions.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to secure the best deals while maintaining product quality.
• Collaborate with the sales and operations teams to forecast demand and ensure timely product delivery to meet customer orders.
• Manage inventory levels and adjust purchasing based on sales trends, minimizing waste while ensuring sufficient stock.
• Conduct quality inspections of incoming products and ensure adherence to company and regulatory standards.
• Stay updated on food safety regulations and ensure compliance in all purchasing activities.
• Track and report on key performance metrics such as cost savings, product quality, and supplier performance.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a produce buyer or in a similar role with a focus on fruits, vegetables, and perishable goods.
• Strong knowledge of the produce industry, including product categories, growing seasons, and market trends.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Ability to analyze market data, sales trends, and inventory reports to make informed purchasing decisions.
• Experience with procurement software and inventory management systems.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Understanding of food safety regulations and compliance requirements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
