Summary
The Deli Manager is responsible for all aspects of Deli department operations and profitability and actively supports Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience by providing exemplary customer service and by effectively training, motivating, and leading their team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide supervision, consistent training, and leadership for Deli employees to ensure excellent customer service and team productivity. Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, feedback, and praise. Conduct annual employee performance reviews.
Financial Responsibilities: Responsible for meeting the financial budget as set forth by the store director by managing inventory, pricing, billing, labor, and shrink.
- Inventory: Monitor sales to efficiently order, merchandise, and rotate products. Ensure freshness, wholesomeness, and consistency of product. Take and document accurate product inventory.
- Pricing: Monitor costs and maintain accurate pricing and labelling, work with vendors and suppliers on deals, displays, product quality, and credits.
- Billing: Ensure accurate billing for special orders and catering jobs.
- Labor: Schedule staff to meet production and customer service needs. Keep accurate employee time records. Monitor department sales per hour and payroll adjusting as needed to meet budget goals.
- Shrink: Manage shrink through effective employee training, product rotation, and accurate receiving.
Other Responsibilities
Perform duties in a manner that safeguards company property, resources, and image.
Assist with deli production when needed.
Oversee department sanitation and cleanliness of equipment and fixtures.
Other duties as requested.
Department Development
Stay current with industry trends and evolving customer tastes and needs by introducing and implementing new foods, recipes, and ideas. Attend company planning and strategy meetings, plan and participate in special sales and events. Develop employees’ skills, knowledge, and abilities to reach department and store objectives.
Requirements
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Three (3) years previous customer service, deli or food service experience is required.
- Two (2) years management experience is preferred.
- Must have a MN Certified Food Protection Manager license, may be obtained after hire. Certifications must remain current.
- Must have proven organizational skills.
- Must be able to prioritize, efficiently perform duties, and delegate tasks.
- Must be able to think outside the box and have excellent problem solving skills.
- Windows operating system computer skills including Google Business Suite and Internet experience required.
- Must have strong math skills.
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
Communication Requirements
- Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language.
- Must understand and display proficiency in resolving conflict through leadership and discussion.
- Understand how and when to motivate using praise and proper correction.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands
- Constant standing/walking/talking/hearing and seeing for long periods of time.
- Frequent bending at waist, reaching arm's length/above shoulders/below waist, crouching/stooping/kneeling, climbing stairs, and lifting 50 lbs. and pulling/pushing up to 1,750 lbs. with use of a pallet jack.
- This position requires close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color vision.

Work Environment
Must be able to work with and around machine noise, heat from chicken fryers, hot case, and rotisserie, cold from cooler, freezer, meat and salad case, terrazzo flooring, a smoke free, multifaceted, and fast-paced facility. Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
