What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Cook position at Main Salvation Army?
OVERVIEW:
As directed by the Kitchen Supervisor, the Assistant Cook will assist in food preparation and production, dish washing, maintenance of cleanliness in dining room and kitchen, such work related to meal preparation and serving clients of the Good Samaritan Center, Advisory Board members, staff and volunteers. In the absence of a Kitchen Supervisor, will defer to the instructions of the Corps Officers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Helps the Kitchen Supervisor in the production of food.
- Sets up dining area and cleans up after lunch. Mops dining room floor.
- Maintains kitchen, dish room, pantry, dining room, refrigerators, and freezers in a sanitary condition and in good order.
- Exhibits cleanliness in all aspects of food service and food handling, including personal hygiene and frequent washing of hands.
- Washes all china, pots, pans, and utensils.
- Drains and cleans dishwasher at the end of each day. Treat with delimer chemical twice a month.
- Cleans and disinfects sink areas, carts, overhead racks and adjacent shelves at the end of each day.
- Uses green abrasive pads on cooking equipment. Use steel scouring pads only when necessary.
- Returns pots, pans, china and utensils to proper storage areas daily. Segregates utensils in trays.
- Cleans beverage dispensers as needed
- Cleans and disinfects refrigerators and walk-in chiller/freezer as instructed.
- Wipes down steel worktables, maintain cleanliness of floors during and at the end of each day.
- May be called upon to communicate with food service and supply vendors of The Salvation Army
- Maintain a current ServSafe Food Handler Certificate
- Other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Willing to take initiative
- Maintains a high level of integrity and confidentiality
- Demonstrates a strong “team player” attitude
- Confidently meets with and relates to the public
- Works positively with all staff members
- Bilingual in Spanish (Preferred)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
