What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Support Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at Maine Vocational and Rehabilitation Associates?
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Direct Support Professional in our Community Support Program.
Our Community Support Program hours are 9:30am – 5:30pm, Tuesdays until 7:30pm; there may be special events that require staff to work evening or weekend hours.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities by providing person-centered support within our community support program. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting independence, fostering community integration, and advocating for the rights and dignity of individuals with diverse abilities.
Position Overview
- Provide direct care, guidance, mentoring, and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in accordance with their individualized support plans.
- Supporting individuals with informed decision-making processes that enhance their ability to reach their goals.
- Teach, assist, and support individuals so they can learn, practice, and master skills such as: cooking, shopping, personal hygiene, money management, communication skills, coping skills, and more.
- Support individuals with participating in community-based activities, such as recreational outings, educational programs, and social events; including providing transportation to and from daily community activities as they pertain to the individual’s PCP and goals.
- Teach self-awareness, management, and use of behavioral social skills and coping strategies, as each pertain to an individual, but also for a group setting.
- Accurately complete, maintain, and submit all documentation as required, including daily case notes, incident reports, reportable events, etc.
