MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Building Principal / Director of Facility Operations

Supervises: None

Employment Terms:12-Month Full-time Position/Flexible Schedule as Needed (260 Contracted Days)

Grade: D/G4


Position Summary
To help create and maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students and staff, perform light custodial and minor maintenance duties.


Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions

  1. Conducts general upkeep procedures and occasional light custodial duties.
  2. Ensure that buildings are ready for student and staff arrival.
  3. Inspect the exterior of the buildings for signs of unauthorized entrance, vandalism, and trash.
  4. Assist with minor building repairs as necessary.
  5. Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles as necessary.
  6. Enter maintenance requests into the DCPS work order system in conjunction with building administrators.
  7. Assist in setting up furniture for special events taking place in buildings.
  8. Assist in receiving deliveries to buildings.
  9. Assist custodial contractor’s staff with snow removal and salt application on walkways around buildings.
  10. Assist SRO with ensuring that entrances and exits remain secure during the school day.
  11. Basic knowledge of the location of fuse boxes, breaker boxes, and electrical switches to assist in the event of an emergency.
  12. Familiarity with the fire alarm system in the building.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  1. Completion of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  2. Proven experience in janitorial or custodial roles, demonstrating proficiency in cleaning and sanitation protocols.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Physical Requirements

  1. This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force
  2. Work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle, or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms, lifting, and repetitive motions, and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling.
  3. Work has standard vision requirements.
  4. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  5. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  6. Work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
  7. Work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
  8. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).


Special Requirements

  1. May require a valid driver’s license to operate division-owned/leased motor vehicles. The incumbent’s driving record will be subject to periodic review, and must be acceptable in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board’s policy manual.
  2. All candidates must successfully undergo the following pre-employment screenings:
    1. Tuberculosis Screening
    2. Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
    3. State Police Criminal History Investigation
    4. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)/National Criminal History Investigative Search

 

Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Boards policy manual.

Salary : $32,198 - $53,102
