COMMUNITY SERVICE COORDINATOR/TRACKER
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This position is responsible for setting up community service worksites and providing supervision of the youth performing the service. This position is 37.5 hours a week that will generally include weekends, but will vary to make use of juveniles scheduled schools breaks like Christmas and Spring Break. Coordinator will provide transportation, oversee maintenance of equipment used, monitor and account for completed service hours and coordinate youth with available worksite where the non-profit organization provides the supervision. Report back to the Probation Counselors and possibly the Court concerning youth’s performance and/or behavior. Assist Probation Counselors with supervision of youth on probation.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director and Assistant Director of the Juvenile Department, who review for adherence to the appropriate policies and for results, obtained and conduct informal discussions of concern as required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervise the youth providing the service to assure that they are acting in a responsible manner
Coordinate with worksites concerning services they need provided.
Set up and maintain regular worksites.
Schedule youth for community service worksites.
Maintain record keeping of hours given and performed.
Provide feedback to the Juvenile Department staff concerning youth’s performance and/or behavior.
Transport youth to and from worksites when appropriate.
Work weekends and possible evenings and holidays when appropriate.
Purchase materials used upon approval from the Director and maintain said materials.
Assist Probation Counselors in the supervision of youth involved in the judicial system to include home visits, administering U.A.’s, setting up appointments and overseeing school attendance, etc.
Transport youth to appropriate facilities and/or appointments.
Regular physical attendance at the employer’s facility is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Two years’ experience and/or training dealing with at-risk youth. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and the ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of individuals, agencies and the public. Ability to work independently. Knowledge of laws and court processes in juvenile proceedings helpful. Ability to interpret and implement juvenile legal requirements and departmental policy. Some computer skills and bookkeeping experience desired. Minimum age 21.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a good driving history required.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
BACKGROUND CHECKS

Must have knowledge of: child labor laws within in 1 year of employment.
Ability to: communicate effectively both orally and in writing; work independently, as well as in a team environment and be able to deal effectively and tactfully with a variety of individuals and agencies including superiors, peers and boards; maintain confidentiality; comprehend and follow instructions; organize and setup work; establish and maintain reports.
Skills in: communicating with youth and families, and an awareness of cultural differences. Knowledge of operating light equipment and hand tools.

Employee will have contact with co-workers, department heads, the public and other agencies to provide service, interpret policy and give or exchange information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a variety of settings to include office courtroom, schools, homes, and community and driving/riding to these sites is required. Also may require bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing reaching, standing and walking.
