Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles’ serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. Today Marbles ranks among the top family destinations in North Carolina providing learning experiences for children with creative programs, and larger-than-life movies.
The Opportunity
The Learning Engagement Host is responsible for developing and delivering facilitated museum programming and engaging with guests in the Museum and offsite in a friendly and professional manner.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Learning Engagement
- Deliver facilitated hands-on, play-based learning experiences to museum guests.
- Set up, break down, and store program materials.
- Collect and share informal and formal data on program impact and engagement.
- Provide written and verbal translation.
- Provide exceptional, responsive customer service to all museum guests; initiate interaction with guests.
- Share information with guests about the play-based learning experiences that Marbles offers.
- Community Engagement
- Facilitate exceptional play-based learning experiences offsite, including driving to the site, set-up, delivery, and breakdown.
- Share information about the play-based learning experiences that Marbles offers.
- Provide exceptional, responsive customer service to all program guests; initiate interaction with guests.
- Direct volunteers assisting with community engagement to maintain an efficient and smooth program.
- Collect data about community engagement participation.
- Act as an ambassador for guests to confide in and receive information that will enhance the program and reputation of Marbles.
- Effectively communicate scheduling, equipment, and other operational issues with your manager.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the manager.
Experience and Skill Requirements
- 1 year of customer service experience, particularly with families and young children (preferred).
- Museum or equivalent experience is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands
- Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
- Exposure to a noisy and crowded atmosphere.
- May need to walk between two buildings with some outdoor exposure.
Schedule
- Flexible schedule required, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Must be available to work Thursday evenings and Saturdays (20-25 hours weekly).
