About the Role:

The Optometrist Technician in Cape Girardeau plays a critical role in supporting optometrists by performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks that ensure efficient patient care and smooth operation of the eye care facility. This position involves conducting preliminary eye tests, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with diagnostic procedures to help identify vision problems and eye diseases. The technician will also manage patient records, schedule appointments, and maintain equipment, contributing to a seamless patient experience. By collaborating closely with optometrists and other healthcare professionals, the technician helps deliver high-quality eye care services that improve patients' vision and overall eye health. Ultimately, this role is essential in facilitating accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans, enhancing patient outcomes in the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited optometric technician training program preferred.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and standard office software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an optometry or ophthalmology clinical setting.
  • Advanced certification, such as Certified Paraoptometric Technician (CPO) or Certified Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA).
  • Familiarity with insurance billing processes and medical coding related to eye care services.
  • Basic knowledge of eye anatomy, common eye diseases, and optometric testing procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preliminary vision tests such as visual acuity, color blindness, and depth perception assessments to gather essential data for optometrists.
  • Prepare patients for eye examinations by explaining procedures, taking medical histories, and ensuring comfort throughout the process.
  • Assist optometrists during diagnostic procedures by operating specialized equipment and accurately recording test results.
  • Manage patient scheduling, maintain detailed and confidential patient records, and handle billing and insurance documentation as needed.
  • Maintain and calibrate optometric instruments and ensure the cleanliness and organization of the clinical environment.

The required skills enable the technician to perform precise vision tests and assist with diagnostic procedures, ensuring accurate data collection for optometrists. Strong communication skills are essential for explaining procedures to patients and coordinating with the healthcare team, fostering a supportive environment.
