Job Summary:
This is an entry-level position in the maritime industry for a tech-savvy individual interested in a varied and challenging IT position. Here, you will support all the technology used in modern business including remote, enterprise, and vessel systems. You will get hands-on experience across the technology spectrum and work with leading technology vendors. This position will also support our cyber security posture, enterprise applications, and new technology projects across our company.
Principal Responsibilities:
Provide world-class customer service for our vessel and shore staff at Marquette.
Provide remote and hands-on technical support onboard vessels and in shore offices.
Diagnose computer and device problems to determine the root cause of malfunction.
Maintain onboard navigational equipment (AIS, GPS Compass) and Rose Point systems on vessels.
Maintain Printers, scanners, and multifunction devices onboard vessels and in offices
Assist in providing network installation, maintenance, and administration on vessels and on shore
Provide cellphone and cellular network device hardware and configuration support.
Install, test, and configure operating systems and authorized software as required.
Obtain training certifications for all Maritime and Enterprise technology used at Marquette.
Support our strong cyber security focus and implement our cyber response plan if required.
Document all support tasks performed in Helpdesk system (ConnectWise) and other internal tools.
Follow company policy in copying software and documentation.
Assist all IT teams in performing project specific and general duties as requested
Receive, test, inventory and configure technology hardware for shore and vessels.
Perform preventive maintenance and cleaning of shore and vessel equipment as directed.
Liaise with vendors to manage equipment RMA/Warranties as needed.
Work scheduled “On-Call” afterhours rotation as assigned
Travel to and board vessels frequently, following company policies, and safety procedures
Support and/or perform other IT related duties and/or project tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate degree from an accredited college or equivalent to 2 years’ comparable work experience.
Be available to travel locally up to 50%. Occasional overnight and overtime travel is required (<10%).
Self-motivated individual with strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to learn and retain knowledge through mentor-based on-the-job training and earned certifications.
Working knowledge of PC hardware, networking protocols, and mobile operating systems.
Familiarization with MS Applications, Windows operating systems, and MS Office Suites.
Experience with the troubleshooting and setting up of printers, cell phones, and network equipment.
Familiarity with Coaxial Connections and Soldering is preferred but not required.
Dexterous use of hand and power tools in close quarters and outdoors.
Ability to lift 75 pounds and climb ladders.
Good driving record with current, valid Driver’s license, and ability to obtain a TWIC card.
