Road Maintenance Supervisor

Responsible supervisory work involved in assisting in the planning, scheduling and directing of various public works projects.

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Assists in the planning, assigning and supervising of employees engaged in road and bridge construction and maintenance activities. 
 
Coordinates construction and maintenance activities with other departments and with other agencies in the area.
 
Inspects road maintenance, drainage and construction projects. 
 
Investigates needed repairs to right of ways and assigns jobs to subordinates; specifies methods and materials to be used in work of major scope.
 
Supervises the scheduling and coordination of personnel and equipment for public works projects. 
 
Designs and implements measures for work standardization procedures.
 
Directs training programs to instruct departmental employees in schedule utilization, work and safety methods.
 
Monitors daily activities, performance of duties, and progress of special service projects, alterations and renovation projects, maintenance, and repairs; ensures integrity of work; ensures that work is completed or in transition is in compliance with applicable codes.
 
Performs work related to this job description as required.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of planning, management and scheduling as they relate to public works projects. 
 
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of proper use of safety practices.
 
Knowledge of the elementary principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to street maintenance and construction.
 
Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment common to road and bridge construction. 
 
Knowledge of civil engineering practices as they pertain to road construction and maintenance.
 
Ability to plan the work and supervise subordinate personnel in public works construction and maintenance activities.
 
Ability to effectively deal with the public, co-workers, management, and other County officials.
 

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, supplemented by college-level course work in Engineering, Surveying, Soils, Construction or related field and four (4) years' experience in public works construction that includes some supervisory capacity in street construction, resurfacing, and drainage maintenance.

Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted on a year for year basis.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's Class B CDL within ninety (90) days of hire.  Possession of a Florida Driver's Class A CDL preferred.

Work is performed outdoors. 

Occasionally inside, cold, exposed to sudden temperature changes, wet, working on irregular and slippery surfaces.
