Job Description
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, McGovern Institute for Brain Research-DiCarlo Lab, to support multidisciplinary research focused on understanding the neuronal algorithms and circuits that underlie visual object recognition. Will contribute to the day-to-day activities of a team of technician(s), graduate students, and postdocs to expand and scale the throughput of neural and behavioral data collection. Responsibilities will include assisting with oversight of a state-of-the art laboratory and animal colony by providing research and animal care support; serving (alongside other technician(s)) as liaison between lab and the Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) to communicate needs regarding animal care, health, scheduling, etc.; and serving as a point-person for animal training and handling--working closely with DCM to develop and execute new protocols and ensure proper training of lab members—and in-cage animal behavior. Will also assist with data processing and storing collected data in standardized data structures on lab-wide databases, reviewing the quality of collected data, and contributing to data analyses and scientific papers; assist in writing, maintaining, and amending laboratory safety protocols and SOPs; assist with planning and preparing for surgical procedures; and assisting with surgical and MRI procedures.
The position offers opportunities for direct participation in research projects, including the co-authoring of publications where appropriate.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, engineering, or related field; two years’ experience working in a research laboratory; basic computer skills; proactive approach to responsibilities; strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills; self-motivation; and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other lab members. PREFERRED: experience with animal research, comfort working with laboratory animals, and a background in engineering and/or experience with computer science/coding. Job #22808
